Pangman Daycare is seeking a dynamic individual to operate our 25 space community child care centre. The successful candidate needs to ensure quality child care services which enriches our children and community as well as operates in compliance with The Child Care Act and The Child Care Regulations.

Duties would include Administration, such as payroll, office accounting, Government reporting and grant applications, parent and staff relations, HR, Program/Child Development, Family Support, Professional and community involvement as well as excellent non-profit board relations.

Marilyn Doughty Retires From Radius Credit Union

After 17 years with the Radius Credit Union, Marilyn Doughty has decided to retire.

Marilyn started her career in 1974 at the CIBC Pangman Branch as Administrator and Branch Manager. In 1994 the CIBC left the community of Pangman. The Ogema and District Credit Union then opened a branch and hired Marilyn and earlier retiree Kathryn Aspen as Member Service Representatives. Marilyn has continued to work with the Radius Credit Union until her final day of October 21, 2011.

Marilyn plans on spending each day with family and friends in the Pangman and surrounding area.

After 37 combined years in the workforce, the Board and Staff of the Radius Credit Union want to wish Marilyn the best in all her future endeavours.

Renovations Continue at the Hometown Cafe

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Hometown Cafe was not able to open on May 14, 2011 as originally announced.

A new Hood for the stove had to be ordered and other work is still in progress. The hood for the stove has arrived and has now been installed.

Boyd advises that he hopes to have the Cafe open soon and that he will send out a flyer and have a poster up as soon as he is ready to open.

Hometown Cafe Opening Soon!

In April 2011 the Village of Pangman sold the Cafe building. The new owners took over in May 2011.   At the present time they are doing renovations and hope to be open soon.

The new owners advise that the Hometown Cafe will be open:

  • Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Sunday for Brunch from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

The Hometown Cafe will be the home of Where’e the Beef 5lb Burger Challange.

Kathy’s Place Closed April 29th, 2011

On Friday, April 29th, Kathy’s Place closed its doors after being open for more than 5 1/2 years.

A pot luck supper was held on Friday evening at the cafe with many of Kathy’s customers attending. For supper there were salads, pizza, pasta, sausage, homemade bread,  delicious desserts and more. There was plenty of food for everyone.

Kathy would like to thank the people of Pangman and area for supporting her in her endeavour for the last 5 1/2 years. She also thanks the community for letting her live her dream of running her own Cafe. She says she will miss everyone. Kathy wishes Boyd and family all the best in their new venture.

Update on Community Kitchen and Daycare Buildings

Work continues on the Daycare and Community Kitchen. In April they installed the water and sewer lines and also built the entry way into the Daycare.

In April you should have received a mail out from the Daycare advising that they are now accepting resumes for positions. They are also asking that you contact Sveta Lagun or a board member with enrollment possibilities, including part-time or occasional, as they need this information for planning.

Family Hair Salon Now Open!

Jo’s Hair and Body Care Co. is now open by appointment only, Monday through Saturday, closed Stat holidays and Sundays at the old Cutting Room location (301 Saskatchewan Ave).

Pangman Co-op Celebrates 75 Years

On Thursday, April 7th, 2011 the Pangman Co-op held its 75th Annual Meeting. About 100 people attended the supper of Kentucky Fried Chicken at 6 pm and the meeting which followed at 7 pm.

Don Gursky chaired the meeting. The Pangman Co-op was presented with a plaque from the Federated Co-op. Monica was presented with a ring for her 15 years as an employee of the Co-op. The Federated Co-op Limited Delegates donated $150.00 to Charity Farms. Monica Wilson presented the Retail Manger’s Report. Susan Peters presented the Delegates Report.

Mayor Rod Rowland and Chuck Jacques congratulated the Pangman Co-op on their 75th Anniversary.

The official date of incorporation for the Pangman Co-op was April 1, 1936. The Co-op started out in a small building located where the cafe is today. It later moved to the building where the current Post Office is located. Later it moved to the present site of the Service Station. The earliest minutes on record are from 1944. In 2005 the Pangman Co-op opened the grocery store and at 2010 year end the grocery store has a black bottom line before FCL patronage.

Kathryn Aspen Retires from Radius Credit Union!

On Thursday, March 3rd and Friday March 4th, the Radius Credit Union served  coffee and donuts to celebrate Kathryn Aspen’s retirement.

Kathryn has worked at the Radius Credit Union for seventeen years. Over 50 people came by for coffee and a donut and to wish Kathryn the best on her retirement.
