Radius Credit Union Sixth Annual Meeting

On Tuesday, April 3, 2012 the 6th Annual Meeting of the Radius Credit Union was held at the Pangman School Gym.

A delicious supper of Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Vegetables, Buns, Salad and desserts was served. The supper was prepared by the Pangman Community Kitchen.

After the supper the meeting was chaired by Gordon Young, President of the Radius Credit Union Board. Ted Struthers was appointed as Secretary for the meeting.

The current members of the Radius Credit Union Board are: Ken Bourassa, Blair Kotz, Perry Johnson, Darcy Iversen, Brenda Mazer, Teresa Field, Christine Peters, Mark Mellon, Keith Bacon, Ray Barbarin and Gordon Young.

Following the meeting service awards were handed out. Our very own Marilyn Doughty received a Retirement Service Award. Many door prizes were drawn for.

Please note that the Radius Credit Union Member Equity Days  will be on  April 18th to April 20th, 2012. Drop by for coffee and dainties with our staff.

Customer Appreciation Afternoon

On Saturday, March 31, 2012 a Customer Appreciation Afternoon was held at the Pangman Community Centre from 1 to 4 pm.

Six local businesses and groups were there to thank the community for their support over the last year, namely: Radius Credit Union, Pangman Co-op, Grainbelt Agencies, Hometown Cafe, Pangman Daycare and the Pangman & District Economic Development Board.

A lunch of fresh buns, cold cuts, cheese, pickles and dessert was served during the afternoon. Door prizes were drawn for and 50/50 tickets were sold by the Economic Development Board.

Pancake Breakfast and Trade Show

On Saturday, March 24, 2012 the Pangman & District Economic Development Board hosted a Pancake Breakfast in conjunction with the South Sask Market Place Trade Show at the Pangman School Gym.

A delicious breakfast of Pancakes, Hash browns, Sausage, Fruit Salad, Cereal, Juice and coffee was served.  A big thank you to the Economic Development Board for hosting the breakfast and for all the volunteers who came out to help.

The Trade Show was open from 9 am to 2 pm with many vendors selling a wide array of items:

Raffle tickets were sold for baskets, made and donated by Arla Hanson, to raise money for Kassidy Telenga. Kassidy has Burkitt’s Non-Hodgkins Lynphoma. She is from Ceylon and is 13 years old. They total of $320.00 was raised for Kassidy at the Trade Show. The winners of the baskets were: Isabelle Sample, Janayah Tichkowsky,R.M Verveugt,Doreen Rainey,Eileen Beres, Mazie Seibl.

We would like to thank the community for coming out to the Trade Show and for helping raise funds for Kassidy Telenga.

Deep South Personal Care Home Annual Meeting 2012

The Deep South Personal Care Home Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Pangman Community Centre. Registration was at 7pm and the meeting followed at 7:30 pm. Jerry Tondevold chaired the meeting.

Two employees received 5 year awards of a name tag and flowers: Terri Waldner and Audrey Weber.

Jerry Tondevold thanked the staff and Lisa, the administrator, for their hard work over the last year. He also thanks all those who made donations to the care home.

Lisa Still, Administrator, thanked the community and volunteers from the RM, Village of Pangman, Ogema, and Ladies Auxiliary for their help over the past year. She also thanked the Board of Directors for helping with landscaping the backyard.  Currently there are 24 beds full. The rent at the home increased 7% in January 2012. She thanked all the staff for their hard work.Currently there are 12 full time employees, 3 part time employees and 2 casual employees.

Eileen Tunall presented a report on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary. The Ladies Auxiliary raises funds to help with purchasing items for the care home. They purchased small gifts for the residents at Christmas. They also helped purchase 2 sofas for the living room and concrete for the patio and sidewalk. They will be hosting a Mother’s Day Tea in May, watch for more details.

Coffee and donuts were served after the meeting.

Pangman Co-op Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Pangman Co-op was held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Pangman Community Centre. Don Gurskey chaired the meeting.

Monica Wilson, Manager, reported that a new hoist has been installed in the garage, that building materials (lumber, gyproc etc) will be available for purchase soon. She thanked the staff for their hard work over the past year. As well she presented the Financial Report.

There were no new board members elected this year. Vera Knox, Susan Peters and Norman Merritt, whose terms were up this year, all agreed to stay on another year.

Effective March 2012 the current Directors and Officers are:

New Modular Home Arrives in Pangman

On Friday, March 16, 2012 one of the new Modular Homes arrived in Pangman.  This home was brought in by Clay Cup Developers. They have purchased some lots in Pangman and hope to bring in more Modular Homes in the near future.

When this home was delivered it was in one piece and on Monday, March 19th the home was split and with the use of a crane was put in place on the lot. They are continuing to work on the home.  Watch for more updates.

SECSD Electors Meeting In Pangman March 19, 2012

On Monday, March 19, 2012 an Electors Meeting was held in Pangman. This meeting was open to the community, with SECSD Board members, Marc Casavant, Director of Education, and the Pangman School Review Committee in attendance.

Carol Flynn, Chair of the South East Cornerstone School Division (SECSD) Board reviewed the School Review Process and the steps that will follow after this meeting.

Elwood White of the Pangman School Review Committee then introduced those members of our community who were doing presentations to the Board.  Thirteen members of our community did presentations: Chuck Jacques, Students of the Respect-Ed Team, Eileen Tunall, Pam Rowland, Mayor Rod Rowland, Gary Penner, Brian Jesse, Curtis Bourassa, Don Gurski, John Colbow, Elwood White, Brandon Tichkowsky, and James Carpenter.

Each person spoke about the importance of having a K to 12 School in our Community. They brought up concerns about traveling time to attend other schools, the safety of our students and response time for the EMS if there is an accident, the lack of after school activities due to students attending schools outside of our community, and the loss of business in Pangman, as Parents will spend money in the community were there children attend school. Others spoke about the growth of our community in the past few years, the new Water Treatment Plant, Daycare, Community Kitchen, oil coming to the area, affordable housing being developed in Pangman and area.  Local business owners spoke about their businesses and how the loss of grades 9 to 12 would effect their businesses.

Four students from Pangman School, who are members of the Respect ED team, spoke about events coming up at the school, Pink T Shirt Day and Hoops and Jump rope for Heart.  That Pangman School was the Saskatchewan winner of the Recycle my Cell Contest, and about the Mentorship Program which is held every Thursday at our school.

James Carpenter, a director of Clay Cup Developments out of Alberta spoke about their plans for development in Pangman and other areas in Saskatchewan. They have purchased lots in Pangman and are selling affordable Modular Homes, the first of which home arrived in Pangman on March 16th.

After all the presentations Carol Flynn, Chair of the SECSD Board, thanked everyone for their presentations and advised that members of the community could send presentations to the SECSD Board at 80A 18th St., Weyburn, SK S4H 2W4 until March 30, 2012.

Coffee and Donuts were served after the meeting.

Local Student Competed at the Weyburn Open Powerlifting Competition

Brittinay Rowland competed at the Weyburn Open Powerlifting Competition on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.  At this level she broke 2 Provincial Records; squat at 220 lbs and bench press at 110 lbs.  She also broke a National Record; dead lift at 275 lbs.

Brittinay has qualified and will compete with Team Saskatchewan at the National Event being held in Calgary, the week of April 10th, 2012.

Brittinay has been training with Mr. Ryan Fowler (former Pangman Principal) since October, and has done extremely well in the sport.

Congratulations Brittinay and best of luck in Calgary!

Local Area Talent to Perform at Telemiracle

Matthew Hunter Bernard, from the Khedive Area, will be performing on the Telemiracle stage, by his stage name Matt Hunter, at 1:30 a.m. on March 4, 2012.

Matt embraced the guitar at the age of seven.  Matt, who attended Pangman School, studied guitar with Mrs. Radmussen for several years in Radville, then with Cleo Coderre at Weyburn’s Music Craft.
