We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

We would like to thank all those who submitted photos and stories for us to post on the website.

This evening Phil and I took a drive to look at the Christmas Lights in town. I took pictures of some of the lights to share with you.

The Pangman School Community Council had their annual sleigh ride on Thursday, Dec 17th.

The weather was beautiful and about 50 people turned out for the sleigh ride.

The SCC supplied hot chocolate, marshmellows and hot dogs.  Albert Hanson and his team of horses as well as Darryll Rowland were gracious enough to come out and enjoy the evening with us.  Thanks to Lloyd Lillejord for bringing in the firepits and wood, thanks to Kim Nyhus for organizing the event, and also thank you to the Pangman Rec Centre for donating the use of the Community Centre.

2009 has been a good year for our Tops group.

We had a new member join in January, so now we have 6 members.

In October we received a certificate for having a No Gain Year in 2008.  Also, in October Loretta won a pin for walking over 500 miles in our 2008 contest walk 500 miles.

We have had a few months this year were we have had No Gain Months.

Each month we have a contest we run. In October we had a contest were if you lost weight or stayed the same, you could draw a letter to spell the phrase “Cut & Burn”. Ginny was the winner of this contest and Loretta came in second.

Our current contest is if you lost weight or stayed the same, you could draw a letter to spell the word “Gifts”.

On December 11th, at our regular meeting, we exchanged Christmas cards and Gifts.

Friday, December 18th will be our last meeting for 2009. We will meet again on Friday, January 8th, 2010. If you are thinking of joining a weight loss group in the new year, drop by and visit us on Friday mornings at 10 a.m. at the Pangman Library.

The Pangman Community Christmas Sing-along was held Saturday, December 12th at the Abundant Living Church. About 40 people attended in spite of an extremely chilly night.

Connie Lozinsky was the MC and various members of the community contributed to the musical evening with their guitars, drums, piano and voice selections. As well, the children delighted the audience with various Christmas riddles.

A pot luck lunch of Christmas goodies were enjoyed by all who attended.

Many thanks to all who participated, provided lunch, coffee and hot chocolate. A special thank you to Pastor Gary Penner for letting us use the Abundant Living Church for the evening.

Shuffleboard/Pool night at the Pangman Community Centre starts on  Friday, Jan 8th at 7 p.m.  and every Friday after.

Fees are undetermined but will be minimal.

Come out and enjoy an evening of fun, sponsored by the Pangman Rec Board.  Coffee will be on!

The Pangman School Community Council will be hosting their annual sleigh ride (weather Permitting) on Thursday, Dec 17.  We will meet at the Pangman Community Centre at 4:00.  Albert Hanson has graciously agreed to bring his team of horses and sleigh and spend the evening with us.

We will roast marshmellows, cook hot dogs and have hot chocolate, all supplied by the Pangman SCC.  Everyone is invited to attend this  fantastic evening of good food, company and carols.  See you there!!

We had our Christmas Supper and book club meeting at Kathy’s Place on December 8th, 2009. For supper we had Turkey and all the trimmings plus delicious desserts.

After we had supper, we discussed our November book club selection, Where the Heart is by Billie Letts. Everyone enjoyed this book and we all thought it was an easy read and a great story.

This is the story of Novalee Nation, who at age 17, and 7 months pregnant was dropped off at the Wal-mart in Sequoyah, Oklahoma with only $7.77 in change, by her boyfriend, Willy Jack Pickens.

Novalee meets 3 people her first day at the Wal-mart store, who later are there for her when she is in need and become her best friends. At the town library she meets the town librarian, Forney Hull, who introduces Novalee to the world of books and becomes a very important person in her and her child’s live.

After our meeting we exchanged gifts.

In December we will be reading This Year Will be Different by Maeve Binchy.

The yearly Craft Bazaar was held at Pangman School on Saturday, December 5th.

There were 16 to 18 tables set up at the sale this year, with a variety of crafts and items for sale.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Deep South Personal Care Home had one of the tables and would like to thank all who donated baking and those who purchased baking.  Draws were made for prizes and the winners were:

• Jack Evans, who lives in the home, won the poinsetta
• Don Allewell won the platter donated by Heather Fellner
• Vi Kessler won two draws, an Xmas arrangement and an Xmas stocking
• Karen McNutt won a door hanging
• Stuart Klippenstien won a Porceline doll
• Brenda Connor won a Tree stand.

There is still time to get tickets to our Xmas Hampers, on display at Kathy’s Place. The draw for these will be on December 18th at Kathy’s Place.

We would like to thank all those who purchased from our Table at the Craft Bazaar and who purchased tickets for our Xmas Hampers.

This year Santa Day was held on Saturday, December 5th at Pangman School. It was a great success. Santa and his elves delivered “goodie” bags to all senior residents at the home and to the children.

Movies were watched and then later drawn for. When Santa arrived there were 36 excited children in attendance.

Thanks to Wayne Lozinsky, Richard Strobl and Don Allewell for making Santa Day a success.

We would also like to thank all those businesses who donated monies to Santa Day to help pay for the goodie bags and other expenses. Thanks to the Pangman Library and the Co-op Store for goody bag fillings, and to the United Church calendar fund and Arla Hanson for donating candy canes. Also, thanks to Estella Strobl, Kathy Loucks and Ginny Allewell for filling the “goodie” bags and to Wayne Lozinsky and Don Allewell for delivering the bags.
