Water Treatment Plant Funding for Upgrades in Pangman

On August 24, 2009 Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, and the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Weyburn-Big Muddy and Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, announced that the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have set aside $577,066 in funding to support $865,600 in upgrades to the water treatment plant in Pangman.

Pangman School News

The first Pangman School Newsletter for October 2009 was sent out recently. You can read the entire  Newsletter on the School Website.

Some highlights from the School Newsletter:

  • Karen Schwindt has taken over the Administrative Assistant position when Kerrie Johnson accepted a new position at Ogema School.
  • Connie Lozinsky has taken on the role of School Librarian and will be a great addition to the staff.
  • Megan Hughes is here until December doing her internship.
  • Senior girls volleyball has had a great start to the season.   The team consists of seven girls from Pangman and five girls from Ogema, with Miss Hughes acting as coach and Mrs. Warren acting as manager.  The team practices Wednesdays after school until 4:30 and Thursdays after school until 5:00 p.m.
  • The Junior Boys Volleyball Team is made up of boys from Grades 5-9 this year.
  • The SRC will be hosting Panther Pride Day once again on the first Friday of each month.  Dress in yellow and black to show your school spirit and earn points for your team.
  • Mark Penny is the school based counsellor who is assigned to Pangman School. He is scheduled to work with students at Pangman School on Fridays.
  • New students: Anna, Margarita, Corny, Anna, Ava, Shayndel, Brandon, Cameron, Johny, Sean, Dayna and Kelsey .
  • Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 18th. The students raised $1043.89 in pledges.
  • Annual Open House on Monday, October 19th.
  • The Grades One and Two class is once again walking to the Deep South Personal Care Home to read to the residents once a month.  The students and residents both enjoy their time together.  The next Care Home visit will be on October 14th.
  • The Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two class enjoyed a wonderful camping themed story time at the Pangman Library on September 11th.  Their next library visit will be on October 23rd.
  • The Grades 1 – 12 students will attend a presentation of Peter Pan at the Globe Theatre on November 19th.
  • The students will once again be selling QSP magazine subscriptions.  The magazine fundraising campaign will be held in October this year in order to accommodate those who would like to order a subscription as a Christmas gift for someone.  This was a very successful fundraiser for our school last year!
  • The Little Munchkin Playschool group is meeting once again on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  For more information please contact Robin Larson.

Pangman Dance and Gymnastics Club

The Pangman Dance and Gymnastics Club offers classes on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m at the Pangman School Gymn.

Teachers:  Caitlyn Fuchs and Amber Read.

Fees for 2009/10 season are $200.00 for the first class and $50.00 for each additional class.

Classes offered:

  • Gymnastics, Jazz and Hip Hop for children ages 4 and up.
  • Lyrical Dance for children age 13 and up.
  • Musical Theatre wil also be offered later in the year.

Our club would like to thank everyone who donated to our recent bottle drive to help cover our expenses. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Watch for future events and fundraisers by our group. Coming in November, Mom’s Pantry Products.

Wall of Fame Induction

The Wall of Fame Induction will take place on Friday, October 23rd, immediately following the last session of the Fall Supper, at the Pangman United Church.

This year the inductees are: Ewart Hone and Tom Webb.

Fall Supper

The Fall Supper is slated for Friday October 23rd, 2009  at the United Church in Pangman.  The price is $9.00 per person and children 10 & under is $5.00.

This year there will be 2 setting, one at 5:00 p.m. and another at 6:00 p.m.  We hope that by having 2 setting this will help to avoid a wait in line.

We have put up sign up sheets at the Co-op Store for each setting and would ask that you sign in for your preferred time.

Farmer’s Market – Saturday, October 3, 2009

Due to the cooler weather today, the Farmer’s Market was held indoors at the Community Center. We had a good turn out of Vendors, and a variety of products for buyers to purchase, including books, crafts, vegetables, baked bread & buns, and more.

The Farmer’s Market will be held every Saturday until the end of October from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If the weather is inclement it will be held in the Community Center.

We hope to see your there.

Thanksgiving Hamper!!

The draw for the Ladies Auxiliary Thanksgiving Hamper took place at the Farmer’s Market this morning.

The  Winner is Candice Sotropa.

The Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank Brian Blanex, a vendor at the Farmer’s Market, for donating a variety of vegetables for the hamper.

The total raised from this fundraiser, after expenses, was $220.00. The Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who purchased tickets on this hamper.
